He was born in Putignano (BA) 09/05/1967. Degreed cum laude in Agricultural Sciences 1992. Habilitation for Agronomist 1993. In 2014 he got the habilitation for Associate Professor in Microbiology (07/F2) and Plant Pathology (07/D1). In 2018 he got the habilitation as Full Professor in Plant Pathology (07/D1).
His main field of research are morphology, biology, ecology, eco-physiology, taxonomy and phylogenetics of toxigenic fungal species, mainly Aspergillus and Penicillium species. He is also expert in culture collection and preservation of filamentous fungi, food mycology, microbiology, molecular biology, PCR methods, biological assays, and database management.
